SkillsDMC e-newsletter Volume 17 - January 2009

Dear Colleague,

The Changing Economic Environment – A Year in Review

As we settle in to the new year, it is an appropriate time to reflect on the contrasts that marked 2008. The year commenced with the Resources and Industry sectors struggling with a lack of skilled workers. By the year’s end, the world economic climate had undergone a dramatic change and workers were facing layoffs. More.....

Productivity Places Program

The federally funded Productivity Places Program (PPP) offers the opportunity for organisations and individuals to participate in training at a time when the Resources and Infrastructure sectors need it most. More......

SkillsDMC National Conference

SkillsDMC, the National Industry Skills Council for the Resources & Infrastructure sectors, invites you to attend its fifth national conference.

The theme for the 2009 conference is Future Focused Partnerships, which reflects the need for enterprises, industry associations and government to form partnerships and develop a clear blue print to focus our industry and to ensure it has a solid future.

Every year the conference builds on the success of previous years, with this year’s conference featuring a local and international perspective on the changing economic times. The breadth and quality of speakers featured at this year’s conference will again include the Q&A sessions, which were a valuable feature of last year. More........

2009 Environmental Scan

SkillsDMC have released the draft of our 2009 Environmental Scan for industry consultation and feedback. The Scan reflects on the substantial changes to the world economic climate and the subsequent impact on the skills pool. These changes have not diminished the need for implementing a nationally recognised workforce development system. It is crucially important that our industry use this time to solidify, re-skill and up-skill the existing skills pool to ensure a viable future. The Scan is available for viewing and comment on our website www.skillsdmc.com.au E: issues@skillsdmc.com.au P: (02) 9299 3014.
Feedback needs to be received by COB Tuesday, 24 February 2009.

Rationalisation Project Progress

The submission for endorsement of the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package (RII09) to the NQC is now scheduled for March/April 2009. This is to allow for industry feedback and validation of the proposed Training Package. SkillsDMC appreciates the time, effort and level of commitment that industry has shown for this project. The proposed Training Package is available for viewing from our website http://www.skillsdmc.com.au/Rationalisation-of-Training-Packages/default.aspx    For further information, please contact Dorothy Rao, Operations Manager on (02) 9299 3014 or email: drao@skillsdmc.com.au
